Boise State Competitors Needed For Annual College Bowl

Boise State University students are needed for the annual College Bowl on Sept. 24 in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom.

The College Bowl, the theme of which is “Bring Your Own Brain,” is a game of academic knowledge and quick recall. Now in its 7th year at Boise State, the College Bowl campus program has been a popular tradition on U.S. campuses for 24 years. Boise State is among more than 200 institutions of higher education participating in College Bowl 2005.

This year, the College Bowl will be a campus-wide competition with academic teams that not only will play for themselves, but who will represent their personal colleges. This will be a college vs. college competition. All teams consist of four players competing to score points for toss-up and bonus questions. Teams will participate in three preliminary rounds; top scoring teams will advance to final rounds where they will compete for cash prizes. The overall winders will receive the largest cash prize and a College Bowl trophy to be displayed in the dean’s office of the winning college.

The four highest individual scorers from the Boise State tournament will earn spots on the Boise State All-Star team, which will represent the university at the regional championship tournament in February. To sign up, pick up a registration packet at the Student Union Information Desk by Sept. 21. A $10 refundable registration fee will be charged per team. For further information, contact Mahi Takazawa at 426-2877 or Christine Lukas Moore at 426-2872.

College Bowl questions cover literature, science, history, geography, religion, social sciences, multicultural topics, the arts, popular culture, sports and current events. The College Bowl is organized and administered with the cooperation of the Association of College Union International. The Boise State tournament is run by Student Union and Activities.
