Boise State Hosts Conference on Health Care Safety Net In Ada
County
Boise State University and the Ada County Healthy Communities Access Project
(HCAP) will announce new data on the demand for health care safety net
services in Ada County at a conference from 9-11:45 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15,
in the Boise State Student Union Hatch Ballroom. Discussion will center on
the features that characterize the Ada County safety net, and what the
findings of a recent survey mean for local safety net providers and
policy-makers.
The conference is free and open to the public. Attendees can pre-register at
cpdinfo@boisestate.edu or 426-3861, or register the day of the conference
beginning at 8:30 a.m. A light continental breakfast and free parking are
provided.
Following are a few facts on health care for the uninsured or underinsured
in Ada County:
• More than 15,000 people in Ada County used Medicaid each month
• More than 25,500 people in Ada County live below the federal poverty level
• Monthly, 15,000 people use food stamps
• Almost 8,000 primary care type visits were made to emergency rooms at
Saint Alphonsus and St. Luke’s regional medical centers in 2004
The conference is funded in part by the Health Resources and Services
Administration (HRSA). HCAP consortium members include: Family Medicine
Residency of Idaho, Terry Reilly Health Services, Garden City Community
Clinic, United Way of Treasure Valley, Central District Health, Saint
Alphonsus Regional Medical Center and St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.
