News Release September 21, 2005 Classic Performance Series Brings World-Class Music To Boise State The Classic Performance Series, an annual music series, will feature violinist Kristen Lee at 8 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Boise State Student Union Special Events Center. Lee, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, began her violin studies at age 5. In January 2000, after playing Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto with Juilliard’s Pre-College Chamber Orchestra, she was chosen by Itzhak Perlman to become one of his students. As a soloist, she has performed in Asia, Europe and the United States, and has been awarded many scholarships and prizes for excellence. The series is sponsored by Boise State Student Activities and will end with a performance in March. Allen Otte, James Culley and Russell Burge are faculty members and the ensemble-in-residence at the College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. Their chamber program includes classics and new music written by Cage, Reich, Harrison, Rzewski and unique pieces written for the group by young composers from America, Africa and China. • Charles Neidich, 8 p.m. Feb. 4, Special Events Center. Considered one of the most versatile clarinet soloists performing in the world today, Charles Neidich was the first American to receive a Fulbright grant for study in the former Soviet Union. He has won numerous top honors in national and international competitions as a soloist, and is a member of the New York Woodwind Quintet. Neidich has made a range of recordings on both modern and historical instruments. • Moscow String Quartet, 8 p.m. March 11, Special Events Center. These Moscow Conservatory graduates gained international acclaim after winning the Leo Weiner International Quartet Competition in Budapest and the International Quartet competition in Evian, France.
