Boise State Physics Professor Discusses Research on Low-Level Falls By Children at Free Lecture Sept. 30

“Accident or Abuse? The Danger of Low-Level Falls” is the topic of a free lecture at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, presented by Richard Reimann, chair of the Department of Physics at Boise State University.

The lecture will be held in Room 106 of the Multi-Purpose Classroom Building, and is open to the public.

Reimann will discuss his research involving the mechanics involved in falls by children or infants from a couch, a chair or other low-level object. Reimann’s research has led him to question whether many of the so-called “Shaken-Baby” cases could be better explained as low-level falls. According to Reimann, forensic physics might help resolve some issues of alleged infant abuse and homicide in this emotionally charged arena.

Pay parking for the lecture is available in the parking structure on Brady Street and University Drive, just to the west of the building.
