News Release September 22, 2005 Boise State Nursing Program Offers Training on Equipment Designed to Prevent Lift Injuries
Boise State University’s Department of Nursing is offering free training for community partners (hospitals, nursing homes, etc.) concerned with decreasing the number of injuries related to moving patients. The Safe Patient Handling and Movement Pilot Project is funded by a grant from the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). Boise State is one of only 26 schools across the country to introduce the Safe Patient Handling and Movement module into its curriculum. The most up-to-date safety equipment, including ceiling-mounted lifts, standing lifts and lateral movement assist devices, has been installed in nursing clinical labs. Students, faculty and community partners will be educated on the latest innovations in safe patient handling technology to decrease staff and patient injuries. For more information on the project or to arrange training, contact Dawn Weiler at (208) 426-1239 or dweiler@boisestate.edu. -30- Contact: Dawn Weiler, Department of Nursing, (208) 426-1239, dweiler@boisesetate.edu Media Contact: Kathleen Craven, University Relations, (208) 426-3275, kcraven@boisestate.edu
