News Release September 29, 2005 Idaho Transportation Department Director Discuss Issues at Free Lecture Oct. 4 at Boise State
David Ekern, director of the Idaho Transportation Department, will discuss “Transportation at the Crossroads in Idaho and the Nation” from 12:40-1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Room 106 of the Micron Engineering Center at Boise State University. The lecture, presented by the College of Engineering, is free and the public is invited. Ekern’s presentation will focus on Idaho’s response to the challenge of maintaining current infrastructure and sustaining the legacy of a rural economy while continuing the transition to a high-tech, service and tourism economy. Ekern was appointed director of the Idaho Transportation Department in 2003. Prior to his appointment, he served 33 years with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as assistant commissioner, division director of Engineering Services, assistant chief engineer, and as a district engineer.
