News Release October 3, 2005 Large Crowd Expected for Tuesday's Lecture By Karen Armstrong; Overflow Seating, Free Parking Available In anticipation of a large crowd for Tuesday’s lecture by religion scholar and author Karen Armstrong, Boise State University officials have arranged for overflow seating and free on-campus parking in designated areas. They urge people who plan to attend the free lecture to leave plenty of time to arrive on campus. Armstrong speaks on “The Battle for God” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Doors open at 6 p.m. If needed, overflow seating with a live video feed has been arranged for the Hatch Ballroom and the Special Events Center. Free parking for the lecture will be available in the Student Union visitor lot, the Bronco Stadium parking lot and on Bronco Lane. A book signing will follow the lecture. “We’ve received a very strong community response to Karen Armstrong’s visit, and we’re expecting a large turnout for her lecture,” said Helen Lojek, chair of the Distinguished Lecture Series Committee and an English professor at Boise State. “We encourage everyone to leave plenty of time to park their cars and get to their seats.” Armstrong is the author of “A History of God,” “Islam,” the memoir “The Spiral Staircase,” and a number of other well-received books on religious affairs. Her lecture, “The Battle for God,” is drawn from her book by the same name. She will discuss the rise of fundamentalist movements in Islam, Christianity and Judaism, including the role a technologically driven world with liberal Western values plays in exacerbating conflicts. -30- Contact: Helen Lojek, Department of English, (208) 426-1328, hlojek@boisestate.edu Media Contact: Janelle Brown, News Services, (208) 426-1790, jbrown2@boisestate.edu
