News Release October 3, 2005 Boise State University Campus Recreation Wins National Award Boise State University received the 2005 Facility of Merit Award from Athletic Business Publications for its Student Recreation Center. This prestigious award was given to only nine other athletic/recreation facilities nationwide. The Student Recreation Center was selected from among 92 Architectural Showcase entries. The award will be presented to a representative of Campus Recreation at a reception from 5:30-7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. Boise State will be featured in the December issue of Athletic Business, along with the nine other winners. A model of elegance and efficiency, the 90,000-square-foot building, located across from the Student Union on University Drive, was designed by Design West Architects and YGH design, and contracted by Record Steel Construction Inc. The $12.5 million building was paid for by the students of Boise State University through student fees. Featuring a spacious three-court gymnasium, a world-class climbing wall, a walking/jogging track and an athletic training facility, the Student Recreation Center has something to offer everyone. The building allows for abundant natural daylight provided by generous glass walls with views of the foothills and surrounding campus. Designed through a collaborative process with the campus community and the design team, the center is truly a gem for Boise State.
