Boise State Professor Creates Simulation Game for Educators
Boise State education professor Robert Barr has created a simulation game
named “Welcome to Middletown” with Debra L. Yates, a graduate of Boise
State’s doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction.
“Welcome to Middletown” is designed to arm educators with the skills that
they need to deal with 2001’s No Child Left Behind legislation. The game
includes a simulated community, school district, community leaders, media,
school board and task force meetings. “Welcome to Middletown” asks
participants to tackle data assessment by using real-life situations.
The game is designed to be played in full- or half-day sessions, during
which participants will learn by role-playing. Participants can take part in
real-life problems taken from professional journals, newspaper and school
board meetings rather than by looking at graphs, statistics and ratios.
“Welcome to Middletown” is published by Solution Tree and will be available
in late October for $199.95.
