Boise State University Celebrates
'Pilipino Awareness Month'
Boise State University is celebrating “Pilipino Awareness Month” with a
series of programs from Oct. 7-28. Pilipino Awareness Month, which
celebrates the culture and history of the Philippines, is sponsored by
BARCADA, Boise State’s Filipino student group, and the Boise State Cultural
Center.
This year’s events include:
• Pilipino Martial Arts demonstration. Noon-1 p.m. Oct. 7, Student Union
Brava! Stage. The Kent Martial Arts Institute of Nampa will perform. Free.
• Karaoke Night. 7-9 p.m. Oct. 14, Student Union Brava! Stage. Free.
• Speak Tagalog Workshop. 1:30 p.m. Oct. 21, Student Union Bishop Barnwell
Room. Participants will learn a few basic greetings in Tagalog. Free.
• Dance Night. 7-10 p.m. Oct. 22, Student Union Hatch Ballroom. $3. Includes
a free salsa dancing lesson.
• Lecture. 3 p.m. Oct. 28, Student Union Forum. Shelton Woods, associate
dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs, will give a
lecture about the history and culture of the Philippines. Free.
