Idaho Dance Theatre To Perform At Boise State As Part Of 10-day Tour

Idaho Dance Theatre, which is housed at Boise State University, is wrapping up their 10-day tour of rural Idaho with a performance at 2 p.m. Oct. 16 in the Boise State Special Events Center. Tickets are available at the door and are $10 general, $5 students, $2 children 12 and younger.

IDT received a $10,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to bring dance to underserved areas of rural Idaho and to teach children through an educational outreach program. Since October 5, IDT has given performances in Burley, Driggs, Mackay, Fort Hall, Blackfoot, American Falls, Pocatello and Jackson, Wyoming.

The performance at Boise State will include the following pieces:

• Garden of Souls, choreographed by Marla Hansen. An exciting, evocative dance that combines the power and elegance of ballet with the exotic sensuality of belly dancing.

• Cliff Notes, choreographed by Carl Rowe. This amusing piece explores the way people handle being in a risky situation together. Four people teeter on a high cliff trying not to fall off.

• Night Moods, choreographed by Carl Rowe. Rowe’s moving piece reflects the different moods of a city at night, from being alone to being with a group of high energy friends.

• To Be Loved, choreographed by Marla Hansen. Hansen will premier a new dance work to the music of Tracy Chapman exploring relationships between men and women. Comprised of four duets, the various stages of love are explored through intimate partnering.

• Pulse, choreographed by Lauren Edson. A highly physical piece featuring the entire company, Pulse is set to native percussion sounds from West Africa. The movement is inspired by African and hip-hop. The dancers move as once complete unit with a strong sense of community, while at the same time expressing their individuality. The music builds and the dynamics become stronger, until finally releasing.
