New Horizons In Education Kicks Off Twice-Weekly Broadcasts With Interviews With Smiley, Armstrong

New Horizons in Education, the award-winning radio show hosted by Boise State University President Bob Kustra, will kick off a new schedule of twice-weekly broadcasts with upcoming interviews with Pulitzer-prize winning novelist Jane Smiley and religious scholar and author Karen Armstrong.

An interview with Smiley airs at 5:30 p.m. Friday on NPR News 91 during New Horizons in Education’s regularly scheduled broadcast. The broadcast will air again at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday on NPR News 91 during the show’s new time slot.

Kustra’s interview with Armstrong airs at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, and again at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23.

Subsequent shows will also air on both Friday and Sunday, giving listeners two opportunities to tune in to each week’s broadcasts.

Smiley speaks Thursday in Boise at a lecture presented by the Idaho Humanities Council. Armstrong spoke on Oct. 4 at Boise State to an audience of more than 1,900 as part of the university’s Distinguished Lecture Series.

Since its inception in August 2003, New Horizons in Education has featured a wide variety of guests, including nationally recognized figures as well as politicians, professors, artists, and others from the Treasure Valley. Earlier this year, the program was awarded a silver medal from the Northwest district of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education.
