$1.17 Million Grant to Focus on Hispanic Health in Idaho

A $1.17 million three-year grant will work to decrease Hispanic health disparities in Southwest Idaho. The Idaho Partnership for Hispanic Health project has been awarded to Mountain States Group by the National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities, a group within the National Institutes of Health.

The grant proposal was developed in cooperation with Boise States Department of Nursing, which will provide a project coordinator to work with other grant partners. This is the first NIH grant to be awarded to Mountain States and the Boise State Department of Nursing. There is potential for 11 years of NIH funding to support the IPHH project. To learn more about the project or the coordinator position, visit http://nursing.boisestate.edu.

The first year of the project will focus on assessment and development of Hispanic community coalitions. Future project goals will include the development of interventions to decrease Hispanic health disparities. Hispanics from Southwest Idaho will be active in all phases of project partnership, including assessment, intervention design and implementation, evaluation and communication of results.

Other partners in the grant include Centro de Communidad y Justicia, the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs, and the University of Washingtons Pacific Northwest Center for Agricultural Safety and Health.
