Conscientious Objector
to Give Lecture at Boise State
The Boise State University Cultural Center and the Idaho Peace Coalition
will sponsor a presentation by conscientious objector Aidan Delgado at 6
p.m. Nov. 11 in the Student Union Bishop Barnwell Room. The event is free.
Delgado was a Florida college student when he joined the Army Reserves on
Sept. 11, 2001. After enlisting he began to study Buddhism, which gave him
a new perspective on the war on terrorism. He went to Iraq in 2003, and
within months he turned in his rifle and declared himself a conscientious
objector. It took more than a year for Delgado to gain objector status.
During his time in Iraq he spent six months running the notorious Abu
Ghraib prison. Since his honorable discharge, he has spoken around the
country about his experiences.
Delgado will give a presentation about his service, and a
question-and-answer period will follow. For more information, call the
Cultural Center at (208) 426-5950.
