Anthropology Lecture
Addresses Relationship Between Fire and Climate
Boise State University’s Department of Anthropology presents its next
Friends of Anthropology lecture at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the
Student Union Forum. Jennifer Pierce will speak on “Forest Fires, Climate
Change and Geomorphic Response in Central Idaho: Modern to 8,000 B.P.”
[before present]. The talk is free and open to the public.
In the South Fork Payette area of central Idaho, fire-related deposits in
alluvial fan sediments provide a record of fires in ponderosa pine forests
over the past 8,000 years. This talk examines the relationship between
fire and climate over millennial timescales, with implications for modern
fire management.
