Boise State Hosts Hunger
and Homelessness Issues Week
The Boise State University Volunteer
Services Board will host its annual Hunger and Homelessness Issues Week from
Nov. 14-18.
The week is dedicated to educating the community about its members who are
less fortunate. Events include:
The Give Thanks, Give Food Canned Food and Clothing Drive. Nov. 7-18. Bins
will be placed at all Student Union entrances and in the Multipurpose and
Education buildings. Canned foods and clothing will be accepted; clothing
can range in size from newborn/infant to XXL. On Nov. 18, the Northwest
Community Assisted Food Program, a nonprofit agency that provides food and
clothing for low-income families, will collect the donations.
Hunger Banquet and Agency Fair. 6 p.m. Nov. 15, Student Union Jordan
Ballroom. Modeled after a concept created by the hunger relief agency OxFam,
the event will raise awareness about hunger issues through activities such
as the World Game, lecture and exhibitions. Donations of money or canned
food will be accepted.
Born Into Brothels. 7 p.m. Nov. 18, Student Union Hatch Ballroom C. A
screening of the Academy Award-winning documentary about the children of
prostitutes in Calcutta, India.
Spoon Campaign. Throughout Hunger and Homelessness Issues Week events.
Participants will be able to collect mini spoons, each representing a mouth
that they are helping to feed, at every event. At the end of the week, the
person with the most spoons will win a prize. Spoons can also be collected
by donating money at a booth set up in the Student Union; each dollar given
will earn the donor a spoon.
