AIDS Memorial Quilt to
Visit Boise State University
Boise State University will host a
display of the NAMES Project’s AIDS Memorial Quilt from Nov. 29-Dec. 2 in
the Student Union Jordan Ballroom A and B.
An opening reception is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 29. The reception will
include the unveiling of the quilts and a presentation on the project’s
history, presented by Taylor Newbold of the Volunteer Services Board. The
reception and the display are free and open to the public.
The quilt was started in 1987 in San Francisco. Each panel is created by
someone who lost a loved one to AIDS or HIV related causes. Each panel is 3
feet by 6 feet, the size of a human grave, and the panels are grouped into
12 foot by 12 foot sections. The quilt was last displayed in full on the
Mall in Washington, D.C., in 1996.
