Free Boise State Workshop Looks at Environmentally Responsible Health Care

Health Care Without Harm, a consortium of local health care organizations, will present a free workshop from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom on the Boise State University campus. Free parking is available in the Student Union Visitor Lot.

Participants must register by visiting the Web at http://nursing.boisestate.edu/hcwh/index.htm.  Continuing education credits are available through the Idaho Nurses Association.

Keynote speaker Barbara Sattler will address “Toxic chemicals in our food, air, water and workplace.” She will focus on environmental exposures in health care settings or at home, work, school or play; conduct a “toxic tour;” and address “greening” health care and new environmental health resources — especially those here in the Treasure Valley.

Sattler is an associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and founding director of The Environmental Health Center, a multi-disciplinary center engaged in training, education, research and policy. She has been involved in projects on such subjects as:
Environmental justice
Childhood lead poisoning prevention
Health Homes Initiative
EPA’s nurses assisting communities in waste site-related issues
Children’s environmental health
Institute for school-based nurses on environmental health

This free workshop is funded by a grant from Health Care Without Harm: The Campaign for Environmentally Responsible Health Care.
