Boise State International Education Week
Activities Include Japan Night, Awareness Fair and More
The International Programs Office at Boise State University has planned a
variety of activities to celebrate International Education Week Nov. 14-18.
International Education Week was designated by the United States departments
of State and Education in 1999 as a national celebration to increase
intercultural awareness and the importance of global competency among U.S.
citizens.
The university community and general public are invited to attend all
events. The schedule is as follows:
Tuesday, Nov. 15
— Ninth biannual English 123 Conference on Language, 10:40 a.m. to noon,
Farnsworth Room, Student Union. Titled “Learning Languages, Sharing
Identities: The Struggles and Rewards of Being Multilingual,” the conference
features a panel of students who will give short presentations on topics
such as the music of language, discrimination and accent, and the importance
of language diversity in a community. A roundtable discussion will follow.
Light refreshments will be served.
— Fulbright information session, 12:15-1:30 p.m., Brink Room, Student Union.
Fulbright is available to graduating seniors, graduate students and faculty.
The session will include a panel of faculty with Fulbright and other
international experience.
Wednesday, Nov. 16
— International Awareness Fair, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Hatch Ballroom, Student
Union. The fair will showcase the many international connections and
opportunities, businesses, organizations, cultures and events in the local
community. Entertainment includes Irish Dance Idaho, Rudmeela Nawsheen and
Sergiu Moraru, among others.
— Japan Night, 6-9 p.m., Lookout Room, Student Union. This imaginative
evening full of food and fun will be hosted by the Japan Club and will
include travel presentations from Boise State students, an arts and culture
discussion with professor John Francis, a Japanese-style menu, various
musical delights, sport and more.
Thursday, Nov. 17
— Ninth Biannual English 123 Conference on Language, day two, 10:40
a.m.-noon, Farnsworth Room, Student Union.
