Boise TubaChristmas, a unique ensemble under the direction of Boise State
music professors David Mathie and Michael Fischer, will perform at two
downtown locations on Dec. 3. TubaChristmas will give free performances at
3:30 p.m. outside on the Grove and at 4:30 p.m. in the Statehouse Rotunda.
Members of TubaChristmas include more than 60 tuba, baritone and euphonium
players from local high schools, as well as local band directors, Boise
State students and community members. Now in its 14th year in Boise,
TubaChristmas has become an annual holiday tradition for the whole family.
TubaChristmas has been a tradition in many larger cities in the United
States since its first performance in New York in 1974. For the past 14
years, Boise has been one of the few cities in the Northwest to present this
unique concert.
The music for TubaChristmas was arranged by noted U.S. composer Alec Wilder,
and includes such carols as Deck the Halls, It Came Upon a Midnight
Clear, Silver Bells, O Come All Ye Faithful and Silent Night.
Each concert site will host more than 30 minutes of more than 20 carols.
