One of the joys of the holidays is giving, and the announcers on KBSU-FM and
KBSW-FM are anxious to share their recommendations this year with
Stocking Stuffers. During the week of Dec. 5, they will offer
recommendations on the hottest and most interesting CD gift ideas.
Sacred Classics will have a holiday flavor every Sunday morning in
December. Stephanie Wendt will offer highlights from Handels Messiah
on Dec. 4. On Dec. 11, she will recognize Virgin of Guadalupe Day with
Ignacio de Jerusalems Matins for the Virgin of Guadalupe. Dec. 18
will feature Schutz Historia der Geburt Jesu Christ. Dec. 25,
Christmas morning and the first day of Chanukah, will be a very special
program with uplifting music from both traditions.
One of America's great professional choirs, the 10-voice a capella men's
choir Cantus joins host Brian Newhouse for a rare studio performance of
Christmas classics. Deck the Halls, Silent Night, and Winter
Wonderland all get the inimitable Cantus treatment: gorgeous mens
harmonies in breathtaking new arrangements for the season. Christmas with
Cantus airs at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 23, on KBSU-FM only.
And from the chapel of Kings College in Cambridge, England, Michael Barone
hosts the exclusive broadcast of the legendary Festival of Nine Lessons
and Carols service of Biblical readings and music as performed by the
Kings College Choir. The broadcast airs from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24,
and 10 a.m.-noon Sunday, Christmas Day, on KBSU-FM and KBSW-FM.
In addition to these highlights, shorter Christmas selections will appear in
the music mix beginning Dec. 5 (about five pieces per day). From Dec. 12-18,
Christmas music will increase to about 10 selections per day. Beginning Dec.
19, it will increase to one or two pieces per hour. From Christmas Eve until
7 p.m. on Christmas night all music will be
Christmas oriented.
Chanukah actually begins this year on Sunday, Dec. 25. Join BSU Radio for
two specials: A Taste of Chanukah, a one-hour encore celebration of
Chanukah with traditional and contemporary storytelling and music, airs at 7
p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, on KBSU-FM. Chanukah: A Time for Superheroes, a
one-hour Chanukah special featuring the creators of popular superheroes
whose life and work are inspired by the Chanukah story, airs at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, Dec. 27, on NPR News 91.
Welcome in the New Year as A Prairie Home Companions Garrison
Keillor presents a live broadcast from the Fitzgerald Theater in St Paul
from 11 p.m. -2 a.m. Dec. 31-Jan. 1 on KBSU and KBSW. The program features
music, comedy and fun just right for New Years Eve.
Finally, dont forget to celebrate Beethovens birthday in a big way on
Friday, Dec. 16, on KBSU and KBSW.
