EXHIBITIONS

SUNDAY, DEC. 11
“The Nutcracker.” Morrison Center Main Hall. 2 p.m This performance, presented by Ballet Idaho, will feature the Opera Idaho Children’s Chorus and the Boise Philharmonic. $9-$42. Call 426-1766 for ticket information

Clay and Fire Ceramics Exhibition and Sale. Liberal Arts Building Gallery I. The annual Clay and Fire sale, Dec. 11-12, is an opportunity to purchase functional and sculptural ceramic works of art by students, faculty, alumni and regional artists. A portion of the proceeds from the event will help fund the Visiting Artist Program in Ceramics at Boise State. Call 426-3994

MONDAY, DEC. 12
Elektric Havoc Concert. Morrison Center Stage II. 7:30 p.m. Elektric Havoc, a product of the Boise State Music Department’s rock music class, will feature music by Yes, Rush, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, Moody Blues, Left Banke, Renaissance, Kansas, Alice Cooper and Genesis. $5; $3 for Boise State faculty, staff and students. TUESDAY, DEC. 13
Glenn Beck’s Christmas Tour. Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. Radio personality Glenn Beck will capture the spirit of Christmas in this one-man stage performance. $26.50 and $21.50 at Select-a-Seat outlets. Call 426-1766.

WEDNESDAY, DEC. 14
Angel Tree Drive. Donate gifts to needy kids in support of the Salvation Army Angel Tree Drive. Presents may be left at designated points across campus for collection by Volunteer Services Board. Women That Rock. REC Climbing Wall. 7-9:45 p.m. This women-only climbing session is designed for climbers at all experience levels. Fee includes instruction and equipment rental. Climbers with demonstrable experience may climb free of charge. $5. Call 426-1946.

Sawtooth Mountain Film Festival Submission Deadline. If you have film footage of your last great outdoor adventure, the Sawtooth Mountain Film Festival, presented by the Boise State Outdoor Program, is seeking submissions. Films may be sent to Boise State University, attention: Geoff Harrison, 1910 University Drive, Boise, ID 83725-1711. They may also be delivered in person to the REC, 1515 University Drive. TUESDAY, JAN. 10
“History and Application of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.” The Flicks, 646 Fulton St. 10 a.m.–noon. First installment of a three-part lecture series, also on Jan. 17 and 24. Join Judge Stephen Trott as he examines the history and purpose of these documents and clarifies their impact on contemporary issues like the Patriot Act and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools. $30 plus Renaissance Institute membership. Workshop on Urban Sprawl. Student Union Lookout Room. 6-7:30 p.m. Sumner Sharpe will present “Using Knowledge to Manage Our Quality of Life: Adding Planning Resources Statewide,” the second of a three-part monthly series bringing nationally recognized speakers to campus to address topics of pressing regional concern. Hosted by the Boise State Institute for Urban and Regional Planning and the Idaho District Council of the Urban Land Institute. Free. Call 426-3776.

FRIDAY, JAN. 13
Intro to Route Setting. REC Climbing Wall. 4-7 p.m. The Outdoor Program invites climbers who have passed a basic climbing clinic or skills check to participate in this workshop on setting quality routes. This introductory session will teach the basics of route design, hold and bolt selection, placement and safety. Free. Call 426-1946.

Community Climb. REC Climbing Wall. 7-9:45 p.m. Community Climb nights are bonus climbing sessions for REC members and a chance for non-members to experience Boise State’s state-of-the-art climbing gym. Route setting class offered prior to the Community Climb. $5 non-members, free for members. Call 426-2628.

Diverse Perspectives Film Series. Student Union Hatch C Ballroom. 5:30-7 p.m. This series, offered on the third Tuesday of each month, studies diversity through a range of films. This month’s film, “Negroes With Guns,” examines the life of Robert Williams, whose struggle against the Ku Klux Klan in his North Carolina hometown led to his exile in Cuba and China, and brought the issue of armed self-defense to the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement. Discussion and refreshments will follow the film. Co-sponsored by the Women’s Center, the Cultural Center, Student Activities and the Independent Television Service. Free. Call 426-1223.
