Boise State Women's Center Seeks Nominations for Selland Award

Nominations are being accepted through Jan. 30 for the Larry Selland Humanitarian Award. The award was created in 1997 to honor the men and women of Boise State who best exemplify the caring nature, compassion and integrity of the late Larry G. Selland, former dean, executive vice president and interim president of the university. Selland was a tireless advocate for women and minorities.

Selland, who died of cancer in 1996, was an early supporter of the Womens Center and as interim president secured funds for the Childrens Center, renovation of the Canyon County Center, additional student apartments and other projects.

Two awards are given each year, one to a student in good academic standing and one to a current faculty or staff member. The award honors those men and women who exemplify Dr. Selland's caring nature, his compassion, his integrity and his encouragement to women and people of color. Past recipients include students Leo Morales and Peggy Pea Hottel and faculty Cindy Clark and Deborah Teater. To nominate someone or for more information on the award, go to the Womens Center Web site at http://womenscenter.boisestate.edu  and click on Awards.

Recipients will be honored at the annual awards breakfast on March 14.
