Boise State Speaker Series Looks at University-Community Relations Jan. 10

The Boise State University Institute for Urban and Regional Planning and the Idaho District Council of the Urban Land Institute will host a lecture by Sumner Sharpe from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 10, in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. The lecture is free and open to the public.

The lecture, New Resources for Strengthening University-Community Relations, is the second of a three-part series bringing nationally recognized speakers to campus to address topics of pressing regional concern. Designed to promote discussion among area citizens, the series includes a question-and-answer period following each presentation. The presentation will also be videotaped and available on the Web at http://urban.boisestate.edu.

Sharpe is currently president of the Oregon chapter of the American Planning Association, a fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners, and a member of the APA National Education Committee. Instrumental in the success of the Toulan School of Urban and Regional Planning at Portland State University, he is employed by Parametrix, a planning and environmental consulting firm.

The final speaker in the series will be John McIlwain, senior resident fellow with the Urban Land Institute, on Feb. 21 in the Student Union Hatch Ballroom. The speaker series is funded by donations to the BSU Foundation. For more information on the series, call 426-3776.
