Moody Named Dean of Libraries at Boise State

Marilyn K. Moody, associate university librarian for information and research services at the University of California, Santa Barbara, has been named dean of libraries and professor at Boise State University. In her new position, Moody will head the universitys Albertsons Library.

In her current position, Moody administers the public service areas of the UCSB libraries including information services, access services, the sciences and engineering library, area studies, special collections and the arts/music library. She has extensive management experience, supervising a division including more than 85 librarian and staff positions as well as serving on UCSBs senior administrative group for space planning, budgeting and strategic planning.

We are fortunate to have someone of Marilyns experience and vision joining us and we look forward to working with her in continuing to make the Albertsons Library a valuable campus resource and asset, said Sona Andrews, Boise State provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Moody replaces Tim Brown, who retired as head librarian last year. Gloria Ostrander-Dykstra has served as the universitys interim librarian during the national search for Browns permanent replacement. Gloria and the entire library staff have continued to work diligently on transforming the Albertsons Library to be a study and meeting place for students, as well as providing the research environment to assist Boise State University in our journey to become a metropolitan research university of distinction, Andrews said.

Ostrander-Dykstra will continue to serve as interim head librarian until Moodys arrival on May 1.

Moody has been employed at UCSB since 2000. Before that she held various library positions at the University of Buffalo, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Iowa State and Miami University of Ohio. She earned a masters degree in library science and a bachelors degree in social studies education, both from the University of Illinois.

At Boise State, Moody will head a four-floor, 200,000-square-foot library that features a combined electronic and print subscriptions of more than 25,000 titles, access to more than 150 electronic databases, 70 public computers, holdings that include 631,000 books and bound periodical volumes, 1.4 million pieces of microform, 100,000 maps, and more than 98,000 government documents.

The Albertsons Library is also home to several collections of documents belonging to famous Idahoans, including former U.S. senators Frank Church and Len B. Jordan, former Gov. Cecil Andrus, former U.S. Rep. Larry LaRocco and the Warren McCain Collection for Western Life.
