Seven Receive Advising Award at Boise State
One person from each of Boise State�s seven colleges was named the winner of
the Provost�s Excellence in Advising Award recently. The purpose of the
award is to recognize members of the university community who demonstrate
excellence in advising undergraduate students. Nominations are solicited
from current students.
Award winners were selected based on the evidence of effective advising
qualities and distinguishing advising practices. Winners demonstrate an
understanding of the academic and career advising mission and philosophy;
exhibit a respectful, caring and compassionate attitude toward students;
help students develop appropriate educational plans while assisting with
clarification of career and life goals; are knowledgeable about and
sensitive to policies and procedures; and contribute to the institutional
development of academic advising by participating in and support adviser
development programs.
The 2005 recipients are:

� College of Business and Economics � Jan Centanni, director, Student
Services Center
� College of Education � Rickie Miller, associate professor, Curriculum,
Instruction and Foundational Studies
� College of Engineering � Elisa Barney Smith, associate professor,
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
� College of Health Sciences � Glenda Hill, director, Department of
Community and Environmental Health
� College of Social Sciences and Public Affairs � Richard Kinney, professor,
Department of Political Science
