Poet, Author to Give Readings at Boise State

Poet Erin Moure and author Edith Pearlman will give readings in February as part of Boise State Universitys MFA Readings Series.

Moure will read at 7 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Hemingway Center, and Pearlman will read at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 3 in the Hemingway Center. Both readings are free and open to the public.

Moure is a poet and translator based out of Montreal whose latest book, Little Theatres, received the A.M. Klein Prize for Poetry. It also was nominated for the 2005 Governor Generals Award, which she won in 1988 for her book Furious. Moures work is unusual, invigorating and moves beyond the page in her creative use of image, puns, crosswords and computer generation. She is currently the writer-in-residence at the University of New Brunswick.

Pearlman is the author of more than 150 published short stories. Her work has appeared in Best American Short Stories, the Pushcart Prize collection, the O. Henry Prize collection, The Atlantic and various literary journals.

Edith Pearlman manages to combine subtlety with extravagance, understatement with spectacle, drawing our focus to the eccentricities of those who would prefer to remain unnoticed, Joanna Scott wrote in the foreward of Pearlmans latest collection, How to Fall. Pearlman lives in Brookline, Mass.

The Boise State MFA Reading Series brings nationally-known poets and authors to the Boise State campus. Past speakers include Rick Bass, Chris Offutt, Rae Armantrout, Liz Waldner, Joy Williams and Denis Johnson.
