Boise State Cultural Center Celebrates Black History

The Boise State Cultural Center is celebrating Black History Month in February with a series of workshops, forums and other events. Events include:

• Film Screening: “The Murder of Emmet Til.” 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Feb. 6. Student Union Second Floor Gallery. This film is the story of a 16-year-old black youth who dared to whistle at a white woman in the South. Free.

• Hip Hop Workshop. 3 p.m. Feb. 17. Participants are invited to join local rap artists Kritik and Paze of Double O Ryderz for a presentation on the history of Hip Hop. Both artists will give performances following the discussion. Free.

• Lamin Kinteh Lecture. 1 p.m. Feb. 22. Student Union Jordan C Ballroom. Lamin Kinteh, a member of the third household of Kintehs in Juffuruh, Gambia, will discuss West African empires, Pan-Africanism and recount his 1969 meeting with Alex Hailey. Free.

• “Africa Night.” 7-10 p.m. Feb. 25. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. This event is a night of African cuisine, dancing, drumming and a native costume fashion show. Sponsored by the Black Student Alliance, Umoja and the Cultural Center. $10; $5 for Boise State faculty, staff and students.
