This Week at Boise State
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of
Feb. 5-11. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated

EVENT OF SPECIAL NOTE: Black History Month.
EXHIBITIONS
Through Feb. 10: �kNOw Hate.� This exhibition, presented as part of
this year�s Martin Luther King Jr./Human Rights Celebration, examines
derogatory and exploitive imagery in everyday objects. With items assembled
from local collections and recent purchases, the display examines the
origins of ethnic stereotyping and asks each viewer to evaluate their own

Through Feb. 18: �The Best is Yet to Come: James Blankenship
Retirement Exhibition� and �Live Lobsters Dancing Nightly: Student Juried

SUNDAY, FEB. 5
College Ski Weekend at Tamarack Resort. 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Join the
Outdoor Program on this trip to the first Annual College Days event at
Tamarack Resort. Rip up the slopes with your friends and watch the Idaho
Winter Games. Transportation and discounted lift tickets will be available.

MONDAY, FEB. 6
Black History Month: �The Murder of Emmet Til.� Student Union
Building Second Floor Gallery. 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. This film is the story of a
16-year-old black youth who dared to whistle at a white woman in the South.

Winter Acoustic Series: Peregrines. Student Union Brava! Stage. 5

Brandt Foundation Lecture: �Freedom and Its Enemies.� Student Union
Jordan Ballroom. 7 p.m. Join John Stossel, New York Times best-selling
author and co-anchor of �20/20,� for this intriguing lecture. Free. Call

TUESDAY, FEB. 7
SPB Films. Special Events Center. 2:30 and 7 p.m. Join the Student
Programs Board as they screen the hit film �Elizabethtown.� Free. Call

Nutrition and Weight Management Consultation. The Student Recreation
Center Fitness Testing and Wellness Room. 4:15-5:15 p.m. This event is an
opportunity to address concerns about nutrition and weight management

�42nd Street.� Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. Feb. 7-9. �42nd Street,�
presented as part of the Fred Meyer Broadway in Boise series, is the
second-longest running American musical in Broadway history and a 2001 Tony

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 8
Climbing Skills Series. The Student Recreation Center Climbing Wall.
6-8 p.m. The Outdoor Program invites climbers who have passed a belay check
to participate in this progressive climbing skills clinic. Skills addressed
will include edging, flagging, lay backs, mantles, matching, smearing,
stemming and more. $10; registration required 24 hours prior to class. Call

Blood drive. Student Union Building. 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The Volunteer
Services Board invites all members of the campus community to take part in

Faculty Author Recognition Reception. Albertsons Library. 3-5 p.m.
This event is an engaging exhibition of articles and books by Boise State

FRIDAY, FEB. 10
Intro to Route Setting. Student Recreation Center Climbing Wall. 4-7
p.m. The Outdoor Program invites participants to learn the skills necessary
for setting quality climbing routes: route design, hold and bolt selection,
optimal placements and rope ascension techniques. Free. Call 426-1946.
Meistersingers Valentine Soiree. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30

SATURDAY, FEB. 11
�Buck Off� Indoor Climbing Competition. Student Recreation Center
Climbing Wall. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Outdoor Program invites all members of the
campus community to test their climbing skills at the 2006 �Buck Off.�
Climbers will be judged for speed and technique on boulder, top rope and
lead climbing routes during this all-day climbing festival. There will be
categories for youth, beginner, intermediate and advanced climbers. Entrance
fee includes a shirt and raffle prizes. $20 pre-registration; $25 at the

Service Saturday. Student Union Brava! Stage. 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Join
the Volunteer Services Board and volunteer with one of several local
charitable organizations. Free breakfast will be provided. Call 426-4248.
International Food, Song and Dance Festival. Student Union Jordan
Ballroom. 6-9 p.m. This annual festival, celebrating its 28th year, will
feature a buffet of delicious international recipes and an evening of
international performance arts. $18; $15 for Boise State faculty, staff and

Global Expressions Series: Obo Addy. Special Events Center. 8 p.m.
This event is a celebration of authentic African traditions of drumming,

Honor Band Clinic Evening Concert. Morrison Center Main Hall. 7:30

Graduate piano recital. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 2 p.m. Boise

Youth and Education Issues Awareness Week. Learn about and discuss
the issues that today�s young people cope with. Activities will be held at

Faculty Artist Series. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 4 p.m. Boise
State music professor Del Parkinson and featured guest artist Jeff Shumway
will give a piano performance. The program, �Hallelujah!� honors the 250th
anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart�s birth, and includes works by Franz
Liszt, John Adams and Maurice Ravel. $5; free to Boise State faculty, staff

Distinguished Lecture Series: Seymour Hersh. Student Union Jordan

Following their work with area students for the Vocal Jazz Festival, guest

FRIDAY, FEB. 17
Women That Rock. REC Climbing Wall. 7-9:45 p.m. This women-only
climbing session is designed for climbers at all experience levels. Fee
includes instruction and equipment rental. Climbers with demonstrable

Bach Chorale Concert. St. John�s Cathedral, 775 N. 8th St. 7:30 p.m.
This concert is a celebration of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. $5; free

SATURDAY, FEB. 18
�The Princess and the Pea.� Morrison Center. 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Ballet
Idaho presents its take on a classic family fable with a heart-pounding
review of American dance crazes like the Charleston and the Jitterbug.
