Spring Enrollment of 18,031 Sets Record at Boise State;
Graduate Enrollment Rises 23 Percent
Boise State University’s spring 2006 enrollment has set a record: 18,031
students — 360 more than last spring, or a 2 percent increase. It’s the
first time the university has exceeded 18,000 students in a spring semester.
In addition, the number of full-time equivalent, or FTE, students at Boise
State rose to 12,827, an increase of 1.3 percent over last spring’s
enrollment. FTE is based on the number of credit hours students are taking.
Mark Wheeler, Boise State’s dean of enrollment services and interim vice
president of student affairs, noted that the university’s graduate
enrollment had a particularly robust showing with a headcount increase of 23
percent and an FTE increase of 11 percent.
More graduate students enrolled full time in addition to those who took
advantage of convenient opportunities to enroll part time, Wheeler said.
“This substantial increase in the number of our graduate students is a clear
indication that we continue to make significant progress toward our goal to
enhance graduate study and research at Boise State,” said Boise State
President Bob Kustra. “With our recent addition of a doctoral program in
electrical and computer engineering and our efforts to add other master’s
and doctoral programs, I believe our graduate enrollment numbers will
continue to rise.”
Undergraduate enrollment continued its steady, upward trend with the
undergraduate headcount and FTE both setting spring records.
“We continue to serve more students and improve quality simultaneously,”
Kustra said.
The report comes following the 10th day of classes in which the state’s
institutions of higher education are required to report enrollment numbers
to the State Board of Education.
