EXHIBITIONS
Through Feb. 18: “The Best is Yet to Come: James Blankenship
Retirement Exhibition” and “Live Lobsters Dancing Nightly: Student Juried
Exhibition.” Liberal Arts Building Gallery I and the Hemingway Center

SUNDAY, FEB. 12
Faculty Artist Series. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 4 p.m. Boise
State music professor Del Parkinson and featured guest artist Jeff Shumway
will give a piano performance. The program, “Hallelujah!” honors the 250th
anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s birth, and includes works by Franz
Liszt, John Adams and Maurice Ravel. $5; free to Boise State faculty, staff

MONDAY, FEB. 13
Distinguished Lecture Series: Seymour Hersh. Student Union Jordan
Ballroom. 7 p.m. Investigative journalist Seymour Hersh delivers his
lecture, “Chain of Command: From 9/11 to Abu Ghraib to Now.” Doors open at 6

TUESDAY, FEB. 14
Nutrition and Weight Management Consultation. Student Recreation
Center Fitness Testing and Wellness Room. 4:15-5:15 p.m. This event is an
opportunity to address concerns about nutrition and weight management

Youth and Education Issues Awareness Week. Through Feb. 17, learn
about and discuss the issues that today’s young people cope with. Activities
will be held at various locations across the Boise State campus. Sponsored

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 15
Literature for Lunch. Log Cabin Literary Center. Noon-1:10 p.m. The
public is invited to attend this discussion of Adam Hochschild’s King
Leopold’s Ghost, a historical account of the ruthless involvement of King
Leopold of Belgium in the “Scramble for Africa” in the late 19th and early

Concerto Aria Competition. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7 p.m. Boise
State music students will compete for the honor of performing in the
Concerto-Aria Concert on May 7 in the Morrison Center Main Hall. Free. Call

Vocal Jazz Afternoon Concert. Student Union Jordan Ballroom. 5 p.m.
Following their work with area students for the Vocal Jazz Festival, guest
clinicians Kristin Korb and Michele Weir will give a performance Free. Call

FRIDAY, FEB. 17
Black History Month: Hip Hop Workshop. Boise State Cultural Center. 3
p.m. Participants are invited to join local rap artists Kritik and Paze of
Double O Ryderz for a presentation on the history of Hip Hop. Both artists

Women That Rock. Student Recreation Center Climbing Gym. 7-9:45 p.m.
This women-only climbing session is designed for climbers at all experience
levels. Fee includes instruction and equipment rental. Climbers with

Bach Chorale Concert. St. John’s Cathedral, 775 N. 8th St. 7:30 p.m.
This concert is a celebration of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. $5; free

SATURDAY, FEB. 18
“The Princess and the Pea.” Morrison Center. 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Ballet
Idaho presents its take on a classic family fable with a heart-pounding
review of American dance crazes like the Charleston and the Jitterbug.

Viola Day. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Join violist
Peter Slowik of the Oberlin Conservatory for a day of workshops, master

MONDAY, FEB. 20
Every body is Beautiful Week. This week-long series of workshops and
discussions is designed to raise awareness and offer resources for those
struggling with body image and eating disorders. Events will be held at
various locations across campus. Sponsored by Health, Wellness, and

TUESDAY, FEB. 21
Diverse Perspectives Film Screening. Student Union Bishop Barnwell
Room. 5:30 p.m. The Diverse Perspectives Film Series, offered on the third
Tuesday of each month, examines diversity through a range of films. This
month’s feature, “Troop 1500” is a profile of a Texas-based Girl Scout troop
that does not meet in the typical comfort of a troop leader’s home, but
instead gathers at Gatesville Prison to unite troop members with mothers who
have been convicted of serious crimes. Facing steep sentences from the
courts and tough questions from their children, the mothers struggle to
rebuild relationships with the daughters who must endure a childhood without
them. Co-sponsored by the Boise State Women’s Center, the Cultural Center,
Student Activities, Idaho Public Television and the Independent Television

Introduction to Winter Camping. Outdoor Programs Office. 7-9 p.m.
Feb. 21 for orientation and training. An accompanying camping trip will be
conducted in the Idaho City area from 9 a.m. Feb. 25 to 5 p.m. Feb. 26. This
seminar will provide the basic foundation of knowledge and experience
required for winter travel and camping. Emphasis will be placed on trip
planning, shelter construction, food preparation, route selection and group
leadership. All transportation, group camping and technical equipment will
be provided by the Outdoor Center. Meals, personal safety equipment and
thermal clothing are participants’ responsibilities. Register by Feb. 17;

Black History Month: Lamin Kinteh Lecture. Student Union Jordan C
Ballroom. 1 p.m. Lamin Kinteh, a member of the third household of Kintehs in
Juffuruh, Gambia, will discuss West African empires, Pan-Africanism and
recount his 1969 meeting with Alex Hailey. Free. Call 426-5950.

Climbing Skills Series. Student Recreation Center Climbing Gym. 6-8
p.m.
The Outdoor Program invites climbers who have passed a belay check to
participate in this progressive climbing skills clinic. Skills addressed
will include techniques for leading indoor and outdoor sport climbing

Family Snowshoe Trip. Outdoor Programs Office, 7-8 p.m. Feb. 22 for
orientation. An accompanying day trip to the Idaho City area will be held
from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 25. This popular annual event is a collaborative
effort between the Outdoor Program and the Student Programs Board to
introduce families to outdoor winter sports. The trip fee includes all group
technical equipment, a light lunch snack and transportation. Register by

THURSDAY, FEB. 23
Student Piano Ensemble. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. An
ensemble of Boise State student musicians will give a performance. Free.

“The Vagina Monologues.” Special Events Center. 8 p.m. Feb. 23-24, 3
p.m. Feb. 25.
This play, written by Eve Ensler, provides the audience the opportunity to
examine some of the lessons that women are taught about their bodies and
their sexuality. $10; $8 for Boise State faculty, staff and students. Call

SATURDAY, FEB. 25
Black History Month: “Africa Night.” Student Union Jordan Ballroom.
7-10 p.m. This event will include African cuisine, dancing, drumming and a
native costume fashion show. Sponsored by the Black Student Alliance, Umoja
and the Cultural Center. $10; $5 for Boise State faculty, staff and

Francesca Arnone. Morrison Center. 8:15 p.m. Flutist Francesca Arnone
will give a performance that includes Alexander Borodin’s “On the Steppes of
Central Asia, Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto Pastorale” and Cesar Franck’s
