Boise State University Women’s Center Presents ‘The Vagina Monologues’

Tickets are on sale for Boise State University’s sixth annual production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues,” presented by the Boise State Women’s Center. The show will run at 7 p.m. Feb. 24-25 and 3 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Student Union Special Events Center. Tickets are available through Select-a-Seat and are $10 general admission and $5 for students.

“The Vagina Monologues” is part of the V-day 2006 College Campaign, a worldwide movement to stop sexual violence against women and girls. The play is based on Ensler’s hundreds of interviews with a diverse group of real women, and uses their words to explore sexuality and body image. The Boise State production is directed by Lauren Tweedy, a former Boise State student, and includes a cast of Boise State students, staff and community members.

The goal of the production is to educate the community by talking positively and openly about women’s bodies. Ninety percent of all proceeds go to the Women’s Center violence prevention programs, while ten percent go to V-Day.org to fund agencies working to end violence against women.

“The Vagina Monologues” premiered off-Broadway in 1998 and has featured an array of big-name stars such as Oprah Winfrey, Calista Flockhart, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon and Brooke Shields.
