Poet Anselm Berrigan to Read at Boise State Feb. 24
Entertaining yet thought-provoking poet Anselm Berrigan
will read his work at Boise State University at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24,
in the Student Union Barnwell Room. The reading is presented as part of
Boise State University’s Master of Fine Arts Reading Series.
“I derive a great deal of comfort and solace from voids and the idea of an
abyss. Voids are hard to colonize, and since they generally freak people
out, there’s a certain increase in elbow room if you stick around,” wrote
Berrigan in an interview with poet Marcella Durand. This witty, somewhat
satirical comment is representative of Berrigan’s work as a whole. A
professor at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Berrigan is also
the author of two books: Zero Star Hotel (2002 Edge Book) and
Integrity & Dramatic Life (1999 Edge Book). His chapbooks include,
Strangers in the Nest, In the Dream Hole (with Edmund Kerrigan), and his
CD They Beat Me over the Head with a Sack.
Free and open to the public, the MFA Reading Series brings nationally known
authors and poets to the Boise State campus. Past speakers include Rick
Bass, Chris Offutt, Rae Armantrout, Liz Waldner, Joy Williams and Denis
Johnson.
