Boise State University’s Department of Theatre Arts presents Shakespeare’s comedy “Measure for Measure” in the Morrison Center Stage II Theater. The all-female cast will perform at 7:30 p.m. March 1-4 and 8-11, and at 2 p.m. March 5 and 12. Tickets are $12 general and $10 for alumni, seniors and non-Boise State students through Select-a-Seat. Tickets are free for students, faculty and staff at the Student Union Info Desk.

One of Shakespeare’s most topical and contemporary plays, “Measure for Measure” examines the corruptive temptations of power and the ambiguous nature of justice. “For me, the play is about a community wrestling with how mercy interacts with judgment,” said director Gordon Reinhart, chair of the Boise State Theatre Arts Department. “Everyone is judging, and few are dispensing any mercy.”

Written in Shakespeare’s time for an all-male cast, Reinhart has turned the tables by casting all women. The play will be performed on a mostly bare stage with minimal props or scenery, much as it would have been done originally. The cast includes Erin Chancer, Brecca Chabot-Olsen, Katie Dubman, Janessa White, Liberty Leeds, Hailey Hays, Monica Mason, Bethany Adams, Julie Patricia, Sarah Gardner, Maria Sermonia, Karissa Murrell and Hartley Miller.

The production features an all-student design team consisting of Joe Lavigne as scenic designer, Hailey Hays as costume designer, Leah Austin on lights, and Mary Sansotta and Ryan Brady on sound.
