The Idaho Association of Educational Office Professionals has named Jim Girvan, dean of the College of Health Sciences at Boise State University, 2006 Administrator of the Year. Girvan will receive his award at the Idaho AEOP’s annual conference in Sun Valley April 6-8.

Girvan is a nationally recognized authority on community health and health education. Girvan and his wife, Georgia, reside in Boise State’s on-campus Morrison Hall, where they serve as faculty-in-residence for the Health Professions Residential College. Girvan joined Boise State in 1999 and became dean in 2002. From 1986-99, he taught at Idaho State University, where he served an extended term as chair of the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences.

Girvan earned his Ph.D. in health education from the University of Oregon in 1986 and a master’s degree in health services/community health from the University of Washington in 1996.

The award is based on several factors, including interest shown in educational office personnel, achievements and experience in the field of education, academic background and membership in professional associations. In 2005, Girvan was named administrator of the year by the Boise State Association of Office Professionals. His name will now be forwarded to the national association for consideration for the 2007 award.
