Boise State Presents Fraternity and Sorority Awards
Boise State University’s Student Organization Office
hosted the second annual Formal Dinner program Tuesday, Feb. 21, in the
Student Union Jordan Ballroom. Approximately 110 students, staff and alumni
attended the function. For the first time, the university recognized a Greek
Man of the Year and Greek Woman of the Year. Additionally, inductees into
the Order of Omega, a national Greek honor society, were announced.
Jim Wolfe, a native of Boise, was named the Greek Man of the Year. A
founding member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, he served as the
chapter’s first president. Wolfe will graduate this spring with a degree in
business and economics, having maintained a 3.2 grade point average. Wolfe
twice served as the student body vice president and is presently a justice
on the student government judiciary. In the community, Wolfe has been a
soccer referee for eight years, officiating youth, men’s and college soccer
matches in the Boise area. He has helped coach AAU basketball teams and been
involved with the Boys and Girls Club. He is a founding member of the Order
of Omega honor society, which is starting for the first time at Boise State.
Joie Gratton, a Boise native, was named the Greek Woman of the Year. A
member of the local Delta Beta Nu sorority, Gratton is a graduate student
majoring in vocal performance, maintaining a 3.9 GPA. She is president of
her sorority and is in the Meistersingers choir. She has been a conductor
for the campus Chamber Singers group on campus and will sing the role of
Lauretta this spring in the Opera Theatre’s production of Gianni Schicchi.
In the community, she is a member of the choir of the Risen Christ Catholic
Church. She is a also founding member of the Order of Omega honor society.

Chi Omega; Joie Gratton, Delta Beta Nu; Blaise Exon, Alpha Kappa Lambda;
Christa Brannan, Alpha Xi Delta; Ashley Colbert, Alpha Xi Delta; Katrina
West, Alpha Xi Delta; James Richards, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Tonya O’Leary,
Alpha Xi Delta; Hilary Delis, Alpha Chi Omega; Kelly Larringa, Alpha Chi
Omega; Chris Teeter, Kappa Sigma; Paige Weber, Delta Beta Nu; Robert
Burnett, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Joe Holladay, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Bakhram
Mirkasimov, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Tony Volponi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon; Joseph
DeMay, Alpha Kappa Lambda and Nic Adams, Kappa Sigma.
Order of Omega is a national honor society whose members must be juniors or
seniors and have a 3.0 or better GPA. In addition, inductees must possess
high standard of leadership in inter-fraternity activities.
The keynote speaker for the awards ceremony was Boise resident Marilyn
Fordham, a national officer of Delta Gamma sorority. She spoke on themes of
Greek leadership and the important role Greek life can play in students’
lives.
