Shelton Woods, a Boise State University professor of
history and associate dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public
Affairs, has been named a fellow by the American Council on Education (ACE)
for academic year 2006-07.
The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen
institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and
preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for responsible
positions in college and university administration.
Woods is one of 38 scholars nationwide selected for the fellowship.
Nominations were made by the presidents or chancellors of their institutions
in a national competition. ACE fellows will focus on an issue of concern to
the nominating institution while spending the 2006-07 academic year working
with a college or university president and other senior officers at a host
institution.
Woods completed his Ph.D. in Southeast Asia history at UCLA in 1994, the
same year he joined BSU. During his time at Boise State he has gained a
reputation as a dynamic lecturer, effective mentor and prolific writer. He
has written scores of articles and is the author of five books. He serves on
numerous community boards, including the Idaho Humanities Council.
