The Moscow String Quartet will perform at 8 p.m. March 11 in the Boise State Student Union Special Events Center as part of the university’s annual Classic Performances Series. Tickets are $10 general and $5 for Boise State students, faculty, staff and alumni through Select-a-Seat, (208) 426-1494.

The Moscow String Quartet’s members are graduates of the Moscow Conservatory, and gained international acclaim after winning the Leo Weiner International Quartet Competition in Budapest, Hungary, and the International Quartet Competition in Evian, France.

The group was described by the composer Alfred Schnittke as “an extraordinary ensemble that distinguishes itself with refined musical style, an unusually beautiful sound and palette of colors, and a tremendous artistic temperament. The Moscow String Quartet is, in my opinion, one of the most outstanding quartets in the world today.”

The quartet — which includes Eugenia Alikhanova, first violin; Galina Kokhanovskaya, second violin; Tatiana Kokhanovskaya, viola; and Olga Ogranovitch, cello — has played at many prestigious halls around the world. The group is now in residence at the University of Colorado, a position it has held since 1997.
