The Morrison Center Chamber Players, a woodwind quintet made up of Boise
State University music students, earned first place in the Music Teachers
National Association Divisional Performance Competitions in Portland in
January. The group will travel to the March 24 national competition in
Austin, Texas, to represent the Northwest Division.
The quintet, which includes Christina Wilson, flute; Jeff Gander, oboe;
Katie Matsuura, clarinet; Laura Davis, horn; and Josh Vargas, horn, was
joined by graduate student Maria Klyutkina on piano. The group represented
the state as well as Boise State. They performed a full recital of works by
Mozart, Hindemith, Debussy, Legeti and Poulenc for a panel of three judges.
The quintet has received grants from the Boise Chamber Music Society, the
Boise State Department of Music and the music fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi to
help defray travel costs. The quintet will appear in April at the Boise
State Top Ten Scholar’s Banquet in the Student Union.
