Timberline Claims Varsity ‘Teams’ Engineering Title at Boise
State
Timberline High School captured the varsity championship title at the
southwest Idaho TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and
Science) competition held earlier this month at Boise State University.
Boise High School won the junior varsity division.
Students from area high schools flexed their intellectual muscles to solve
science and engineering problems, competing in teams of eight members. The
annual event was hosted by the Boise State College of Engineering.
The Timberline team took first place in the varsity division with 55 out of
a possible 80 points. Team members were Geoff Chambers, Gregory Rancourt,
Pavel Chtcheprov, Zagid Abatchev, Eric Johnson, Harold Williford, Diane
Floyd and Kirsten Sikes. Their coach was Greg Antonini.
Boise High School finished second with 48 points, and Nampa High School A
team finished 3rd with 47 points.
In the junior varsity competition, Boise High finished first with 40 out of
80 points. Team members were Nicholas Huang, Maya Nair, Nikolas Urlaub,
Dennis Rohner, Nick Tacke, Chema Caillet-Bois, MirRahmeen Seyyedy, Anton
Filicetti and Axel Magnuson. Their coach was Larry Neznanski.
Meridian Charter took second place in the JV competition with 34 points, and
Bishop Kelly B team took third with 28 points.
The competition is part of a national academic program that helps prepare
students for potential careers in engineering and the sciences. Problems
cover mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, visual interpretation of
information, computer applications and reading analysis and interpretation.
