MONDAY, MARCH 6-7
Mexican American Studies Conference. March 6 and 7 in the Student
Union Building. Boise State University will celebrate its sixth Mexican
American Studies Conference with a full slate of events. The keynote speaker
for this year’s conference, “Nuestra Historia, Nuestro Futuro,” is Jorge
Mariscal at 7:30 p.m. March 7. Other featured conference speakers are Yreina
Cervántez, Max Delgado, Erasmo Gamboa and Perla Rodríguez. The conference is
free, and free parking is available near the Student Union. Call 426-4056.
TUESDAY, MARCH 7
Nutrition and Weight Management Consultation. Student Recreation
Center Fitness Testing and Wellness Room. 4:15 p.m.- 5:15 p.m. The campus
community is invited to drop by and speak with qualified staff about
nutrition and weight management issues. Free. Call 426-1459.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8
International Connections Seminar. Student Union Lookout Room. 12:30
p.m. Join Christy Babcock Quintero as she presents “Gender Roles in Cultures
Around the World.” An accompanying panel of international students will
offer discussion about the roles they play in their own cultures compared to
those they fill in the United States. This event, part of the monthly brown
bag luncheon seminar series, is sponsored by the International Programs
Office and the Albertsons Library. Light refreshments will be provided.

Climbing Skills Series. Student Recreation Center Climbing Wall. 6-8
p.m. The Outdoor Program invites climbers who have passed a belay check to
participate in this progressive climbing skills clinic. Skills addressed
will include anchor building techniques for both natural and bolted sites,
proper usage of quick draws, carabiners, cordelletes, webbing ropes, knots,
hitches and more. $20; registration required 24 hours prior to class. Call

THURSDAY, MARCH 9
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction. Kinesiology Building, Room 216.
4:40-6:30 p.m. March 9, 16 and 23. Participants are invited to learn how to
consciously and systematically work out the stress, pain and challenges of
everyday life. Sponsored by Health Wellness and Counseling Services. Call

Women’s History Month: “Women and Resistance.” Special Events Center.
7 p.m. Participants will view and discuss a screening of the film “Daring to
Resist: Three Women Face the Holocaust.” Free. Call 425-4259.
FRIDAY, MARCH 10
Autism Educational Conference. Special Events Center. 8:30 a.m.-4:30
p.m. This day long conference is intended to provide educators and
professionals with current information about current practices for working
with individuals with autism. Sponsored by the department of education, the
BSU Center for Health Policy and AutismCares. $129 for professionals; $60

Introduction to Route Setting. Student Recreation Center Climbing
Gym. 4-7 p.m. The Outdoor Program invites climbers who have passed a basic
climbing clinic to participate in this workshop on setting quality routes.
This introductory session features the basics of route design, hold and bolt

Women’s History Month: “Stories Rarely Heard.” Student Union Barnwell
Room. 7 p.m. Refugee women relate their unique and poignant experiences.

The Boise State Outdoor Program invites non-REC Center members to test their

SATURDAY, MARCH 11
Lazer Vaudeville. Morrison Center Main Hall. 2 p.m. This family show
combines high-tech laser magic with the traditional art of vaudeville,
complete with juggling, black light illusion, acrobatics, zany comedy and
audience participation. Presented as part of the Cable One Family Series.
$13 adults, $6 youth 15 and under through Select-a-Seat. $3 lap seats for
children 18 months and younger available only at the Box Office. Call

Faculty Artist Series: Nicole Molumby, Morrison Center Recital Hall.
3 p.m. Boise State flute instructor Nicole Molumby performs pieces by
composers from Russia, France, Latin America and Israel. The program also
features James Cook and Jerry Jensen on piano and Mariah Devereaux Herbeck
as a guest speaker. $5; free for Boise State faculty, staff and students.

Classic Performances Series: Moscow String Quartet. Special Events
Center. 8 p.m. These graduates of the Moscow Conservatory gained
international acclaim after winning the Leo Weiner International Quartet
Competition in Budapest and the International Quartet Competition in Evian,

TUESDAY, MARCH 14
Solo Night. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. The University
Singers present a program of American folk songs with many solo and duet

Career Fair. Student Union Jordan Ballroom, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. This annual
event is intended for all students seeking internships or full, part-time or

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 15
Literature for Lunch. Log Cabin Literary Center. Noon-1:10 p.m. The
public is invited to attend this discussion of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s
Purple Hibiscus, an account of a 15-year-old Nigerian girl’s life in a
country ravaged by political strife and personal struggle. Free. Call

Women’s History Month: “Women From the 116th Speak.” Student Union

Women’s History Month: Hadani Ditmars Lecture. Special Events Center.
7 p.m. Ditmars, an international journalist and author of “Dancing in the No
Fly Zone: a Woman’s Journey Through Iraq,” delivers the keynote address for

FRIDAY, MARCH 17
“Vox Angelis.” Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. The Boise
State Women’s Chorus, conducted by James Berry, performs choral music from
throughout the ages, including a set of works by Spanish and Latin American

Women That Rock. Student Recreation Center Climbing Gym. 7-9:45 p.m.
This women-only climbing session is designed for climbers of all experience
levels. Fee includes instruction and equipment rental. Climbers of

Service Saturday. Student Union Building. 9 a.m. Join the Volunteer
Services Board and volunteer with one of several local charitable

event features a selection of choirs from across the country. Free;

Vassily Primakov. Morrison Center Main Hall. 8:15 p.m. Russian
pianist Vassily Primakov performs Schumann’s piano concerto, Boyce’s
