Boise State Offers Variety of Summer Camps in 2006

Each summer, hundreds of elementary through high school-age children hone their skills or discover new interests at Boise State University summer programs. Following is the schedule of activities and camps for 2006. Each camp has a different registration deadline, so please call the number listed or check the Web site indicated to confirm the deadline.

June 6-11
Idaho All-Star Band.
This camp is open to students in grades 8-12 and includes a weekend trip to Portland, Ore., to participate in the Rose Festival parade. Application deadline is past, but contact Catherine Tuisku at ctuisku@boisestate.edu  or call 426-1846 for more information.

June 11-16
Idaho Engineering Science Camp.
This overnight camp shows that science and engineering can be fun. Hands-on activities and projects encourage self-discovery, cooperative learning, critical thinking and problem solving. Participants work in teams and are mentored by College of Engineering students. Live on campus in a college dormitory under the supervision of camp staff. Little Bronco girls’ basketball camp.

Little Bronco soccer camp.

Striker/keeper camp.

June 12-16, June 19-23, June 26-31 and July 10-14
Boise State Summer Adventure Camp.
The Summer Adventure Camp offers area youth, ages 11-14, the opportunity to leap beyond the confines of traditional camps and experience the beauty and wonder of wild Idaho during a week full of multi-sport outdoor adventure activities. Each camp offers different activities, including whitewater rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, outdoor cooking, backpacking and more. Four one-week sessions will be held; the first day is a day camp, followed by overnight camp. $359 for each session. Bronco soccer day camp.

Chamber Music Camp.
Conducted in the Morrison Center, this camp is a unique experience for students entering seventh grade through high school. Curriculum includes chamber ensembles, music theory, camp choir, opera theater and master classes for strings, woodwind, percussion, keyboard, brass, vocal, jazz and more. June 12-30
Boise State summer youth sports programs.
Basketball, bowling, gymnastics, lacrosse, pocket billiards, racquetball, rock climbing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, weight training and “multi-sport,” including badminton, floor hockey and pickle ball. Ages: swimming 5-14, gymnastics 6-14, billiards 10-14, all others 8-14. Cost $45-$55 per activity. Signup starts 7:30-11:30 a.m. April 29 in Room 215 of the Kinesiology Building and continues 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday starting May 1 in Room 209 of the Kinesiology Building. Call 426-4270.

June 12-July 14
Boise State University Summer Academy.
A five-week, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. program including academic enrichment of the elementary curriculum, computer skills, field trips and swimming for a maximum of 60 children entering second through sixth grades. Boise State University Middle Level Academy.
A five-week, Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-5 p.m. adventure/science-based academy for 25 students entering seventh through ninth grades. The program includes mountain biking, hiking and other activities integrated into a curriculum designed to enhance general academic skills. June 16-17
e-Girls.
An overnight adventure for girls in grades 9-10 exploring engineering and technical careers and opportunities. Workshops, led by the Society of Women Engineers professionals and college students, may include: biomechanics of high-heeled shoes, packaging and the environment, fun with chemistry, designer bridges, rocket into space, computer networking, and a world of career choices. June 17-21
Bronco High School football camp.

Gene Harris Jazz Camp.
Open to students in fifth grade through adult, all skill levels, this camp focuses on improvisation and features nationally recognized jazz educators. Applications are available in April. Call 426-3099 for details.

June 19-July 1
Summer DanceFest 2006.
Conducted in the Morrison Center, this camp consists of two weeks of workshops for dancers ages 12 and up at an intermediate to advanced technique level. Audition required. Features a complete curriculum in ballet, jazz, modern and choreography taught by internationally known instructors. Includes a series of public performances at the end of the workshop featuring works by DanceFest faculty and guest choreographers. Summer DanceFest Choreography Festival performances at 7 p.m. Fri. and Sat. June 30 and July 1 in Morrison Center Stage II. Housing option available. Deadline for application is May 31. Youth football camp.

PONY — Preparing Our Neighborhood Youth for Success.
The PONY program is designed to assist at-risk high school students who don’t have a plan for their future. Students will live and eat on campus. During the four-day camp, they will develop personal and career goals and objectives, research careers, and participate in personal assessments. They will also experience team-building activities and a variety of technical training classes, from auto body to welding. Applications are due by April 14. Boise State Speed and Strength Camp.

Idaho Business Week.
For high school students in grades 10-12 and their teachers. Courses are conducted by business professionals and students participate in numerous interactive events. $100 registration fee by April 30; $125 from May 1-31. Sponsored by the Idaho Foundation for Private Enterprise & Economic Education and the Idaho Association of Commerce and Industry, hosted by the College of Business and Economics at Boise State University. ENCORE! Summer Theatre Camp.
The camp at the Morrison Center features workshops and rehearsals coordinated by Missoula Children’s Theatre. Participants will rehearse “The Frog Prince,” to be performed Saturday, July 22. Advanced Golf Camp.
