Boise State Students Score at Criminal Justice Conference
Several students in Boise State University’s Alpha Kappa
chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society,
received recognition at the APS annual conference in Baltimore, Md. Criminal
justice professor Andy Giacomazzi is the chapter adviser.
The chapter received the Chapter Goal Award for Community Service. The award
recognized the chapter’s service efforts in working with the Court Appointed
Special Advocates program and the Books for Israel program, which provided
10,000 books to children learning English. In addition, the following
students were honored:
Serena Tlucek, Melba —First place, Outstanding Undergraduate Paper: “What are We
Going to do with the Kids: The Effectiveness of Gang Suppression,
Intervention and Prevention Programs.”
Suzann Lathrop, Boise — Commander James Carr Forensic Science Scholarship and
second place, Outstanding Undergraduate Paper: “Domestic Violence Among
Same-Sex Couples.”
Amanda Freeman, Kuna — First place, Graduate General Knowledge Scholarship Test,
an essay exam that covered theory, philosophy, policy and statistics in the
area of criminal justice.
Simon Billinge, Boise, Amanda Freeman, Kuna, Pamela Hall, Meridian, and Kerry VanHees,
Eagle — College Bowl
champions. Competitors answered questions on law, theory, practices and
policy in the area of criminal justice.
