Trudell' to Play at Boise State as Part of Diverse
Perspective Series
Boise State University will host a screening of the film
Trudell at 5:30 p.m. March 21 in the Student Union Bishop Barnwell
Room and at 5:30 p.m. March 22 at BSU West. The movie, which is part of the
Community Cinema: Diverse Perspectives Series, is free and open to the
public. Free parking will be available at both locations, and light
refreshments will be served.
Trudell focuses on John Trudell, an American Indian activist and
poet. Trudell has been active in the American Indian Movement and was AIMs
president from 1973 to 1979. His music and poetry have been praised by
artists including Bob Dylan and magazines such as Rolling Stone.
The film was made by Heather Rae, an adjunct faculty member at Boise State
who grew up in Idaho and spent six years as the head of the Native Program
at the Sundance Institute. Rae has produced nearly 20 films, but Trudell
was her directing debut. The film was critically acclaimed at the 2005
Sundance Film Festival and has since been shown in theaters across the
country since then.
After the screening, Rae will talk about Trudells work and his relationship
to contemporary American Indian society. She also will discuss the making of
the documentary, which she began in 1992.
Community Cinema: Diverse Perspectives is a community engagement project in
its second year. It is a partnership between Boise State, Idaho Public
Television and the Independent Television Service. Films are selected
from the public television series Independent Lens that airs on Idaho Public
Television at 10 p.m. each Tuesday.
