Diverse Perspectives Series Movie Tells Tale of Maverick Farmer

Boise State University, the Independent Television Service and Idaho Public Television will present a screening of The Real Dirt on Farmer John at 5:30 p.m. April 18 in the Student Union Barnwell Room. A second screening will be at 5:30 p.m. April 19 at the second floor lounge of BSU West in Nampa. Both screenings are free and open to the public; free parking and refreshments will be available at both locations.

The Real Dirt on Farmer John tells the tale of a maverick farmer, John Peterson, and the rise and fall of his family farm. Peterson abandons conventional chemical farming and fights local hysteria to build a thriving organic farm, despite a failing economy, vicious rumors and arson. The screening will be followed by a discussion, “Why Eat/Grow Organic?”

Diverse Perspectives is a community engagement project in its second year. It is a partnership between Boise State, Idaho Public Television and the Independent Television Service. Films are selected from the public television series Independent Lens that airs on Idaho Public Television at 10 p.m. each Tuesday.
