Pocatello resident Trina Coleman was recently inducted
into the Founders Leadership Society at Boise State University. Society
members are invited to meet annually for learning and networking
opportunities. Criteria for membership include leadership skills, commitment
to service, an appreciation for diversity and academic achievement.
Coleman is a social work major. She received the 2005 Service Learning and
Federal Work Study Award, and an AmeriCorps Students in Service scholarship.
Her many hours of volunteerism include helping adults learn life skills at
Life’s Kitchen, working with high school dropouts, victims of child abuse
and the homeless. She helped welcome more than 200 refugees to the United
States by coordinating the annual holiday party for the Agency for New
Americans. Through her social work senior practicum at South Boise Women’s
Correctional Center, Coleman is also helping incarcerated women develop
skills to help them achieve success in preventing recidivism. She plans to
attend graduate school and become a social worker.
The Founders Leadership Society was established to recognize graduating
students for their outstanding leadership involvement, both on campus and in
the community. Induction into the prestigious society will provide students
with opportunities to mentor other students and to participate in meaningful
activities to enhance their personal and professional leadership growth
beyond graduation.
