This Week at Boise State
Editor�s Note: Due to the end of the academic year, �This Week at Boise
State� will take a hiatus, returning in August.
The following are upcoming events at Boise State University for the week of
May 7-13. Please note that all events are subject to change. For updated

EXHIBITIONS
Through May 10: �Contribution: Essence of Life.� Student Union Art
Gallery, 7 a.m.-11 p.m. daily. This juried exhibition, presented in
partnership with Boise State and the Suicide Prevention Action Network of
Idaho (SPAN), features works in all media, including music, theater,
literature, painting, illustration, sculpture and photography. Free. Call

SUNDAY, MAY 7
Cinco de Mayo Celebration. Student Union Building Parking Lot. Noon-6
p.m. The culminating event for the 2006 Cinco de Mayo celebration includes
children�s games and activities, food, folk dancing, raffle prizes and more.
Sponsored by the Boise State Organizacion de Estudiantes Latino-Americanos.

King of the Streets VI. Student Union Building Parking Lot. Noon-6
p.m. This event, which features the best custom cars, hot rods, trucks and
bikes in Idaho and Oregon, coincides with the Cinco de Mayo celebration.
Activities include a hydraulic hopping competition, live hip-hop
entertainment and a breakdance contest. Free; $15-$25 to register a vehicle

Dance Showcase: �Dansant R�ve.� Morrison Center Stage II. 7 p.m.
�Dansant R�ve� is a showcase of jazz, pointe and modern dance choreographed
by Boise State Student Aidan Riordan-Buell. The performance marks the first
time that a dance concert has been arranged to fulfill the senior project
requirement of the Honors College. Tickets are free on a first come, first

MONDAY, MAY 8
Finals Relief Whitewater Rafting Trip Registration Deadline. Payette
River. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The Outdoor Programs Office invites the campus
community to relieve the stress of finals week with a day of whitewater
rafting on the Payette River. Transportation, lunch and equipment is
provided by the Outdoor Programs Office. $25. Call 426-1946 for more

TUESDAY, MAY 9
Nutrition and Weight Management Consultation. Student Recreation
Center Fitness Testing and Wellness Room. 4:15 p.m.- 5:15 p.m. Participants
are invited to drop by and speak with qualified staff about nutrition and
weight management issues. Free. Call 426-1459.
WEDNESDAY, MAY 10
Drop In Kayak Sessions. Boise State Pool. 7-9:45 p.m. This
non-instructional session is a great opportunity to get into the pool and
work on kayaking skills. $5 with personal kayak; $6 for a rental kayak. Call

THURSDAY, MAY 11
Bike Repair Clinic. Student Recreation Center Patio. 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
The Student Recreation Center invites the campus community to bring their
bikes and receive technical advice from a trained mechanic. Free. Call

FRIDAY, MAY 12

Community Climb. Student Recreation Center Climbing Gym. 7-9:45 p.m.
Community Climb nights are bonus climbing sessions for Recreation Center
members and a chance for non-members to experience Boise State�s
state-of-the-art climbing gym. Route setting class offered prior to the
Community Climb. $5; free for Recreation Center members. Call 426-1946.
Ballet Idaho: �Pink Martini.� Morrison Center. 8 p.m. This original
Ballet Idaho production is choreographed to the renowned multi-lingual music

Dive for Diabetes. Skydown Sport Skydiving at the Caldwell Airport.
This event is dedicated to promoting education and inspiring an active,
healthy lifestyle for people with diabetes. $120 for early registration;

Bring Your Own Voice: Blogging Workshop. Student Union Cultural
Center. 5-7 p.m. This event, facilitated by Ro Parker, is part of the Bring
Your Own Voice series, which invites participants to learn about the
creative process from spoken word artists, songwriters, published authors,
bloggers, poets and students with powerful things to say. Free. Call

WEDNESDAY. MAY 17
Boise Choristers Concert. Morrison Center Recital Hall. 7:30 p.m. May
17-18. The Boise Choristers, a women�s choral group established in 1918,
presents its 65th annual spring concert, �Ladies �B� Good: From Bach to the
Beatles.� Free; donations are encouraged to help fund the Choristers�
scholarship for Boise State music students. For more information, contact

THURSDAY, MAY 18-21
River Safety and Rescue Seminar. Outdoor Programs Classroom and the
Middle Fork of the Boise River. 7 a.m.-9 p.m. This seminar, designed for
both rafters and kayakers, emphasizes safe judgment and accident prevention.
Topics include self-rescue, mid-river recoveries, tag line rescue and victim
stabilization. All technical equipment is provided by the Outdoor Programs

THURSDAY, MAY 18-20
�The Male Intellect�An Oxymoron?� Morrison Center. 7:30 p.m. May 18,
8 p.m. May 19-20. In this hit one-man show, actor and writer Robert Dubac
delivers a clever combination of theater and stand-up comedy. Presented as
part of the Fred Meyer Broadway in Boise Series. $23.50-$33.50. Call
