Boise State Biology Department Chair Jim Munger Named
Associate Vice President for Academic Planning
Jim Munger, chair of the Biology Department at Boise State University, has
been named associate vice president for academic planning, university
officials announced. Munger will assume his new position July 1.
Munger’s primary responsibilities in the provost’s office will be working
with departments and colleges in academic programming, program assessment,
program and institutional accreditation, strategic planning implementation,
budget development and planning of academic space and facilities.
Munger joined Boise State’s faculty in 1988 and has served as chair of the
Biology Department since 1998. Among his accomplishments are providing
leadership in the redesign of the undergraduate biology curriculum and the
development of a bachelor of arts degree in environmental studies and a
master of arts in biology. He also helped lay the groundwork for future
plans for Ph.D. programs in biomolecular sciences and in biology.
Munger has been an active member of the Boise State community, serving on
numerous committees such as the Executive Budget Committee, the Top Ten
Scholars Committee, the Strategic Planning Initiative team, and most
recently chairing the search committee for the dean of the College of Arts
and Sciences.
