News Release
June 27, 2006 Classical music station provides two days of music and readings
BOISE KBSU will celebrate July 4th and the spirit of America in words and music with The Sound of America. Throughout the day on Monday and Tuesday, KBSUs musical programming will feature American composers and artists, laced with readings from American documents, letters, speeches and poetry, from the founding days to the present.
Join KBSU July 3 for unique perspectives on the American experience from artists such as Michael Tilson Thomas, dignitaries like Barbara Jordon, and the reading of works by John Gunther, Emma Lazarus and Mark Twain. During the noon hour, Kimberlea Daggy will offer an international perspective with music written in 1776 on The Daily Special, featuring Haydns Symphony #61 in D, Mozarts Piano Concerto #8 Lutzow and C.P.E. Bachs Symphony in C.
On July 4, KBSU brings music and message together with an all-day, all-American tribute hosted by Monika Vischer. The celebration gets going with Simple Gifts featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma and vocalist Alison Krauss. The morning moves along with Scott Joplins Maple Leaf Rag, George Gershwins Rhapsody in Blue and Coplands Lincoln Portrait, featuring the voice of James Earl Jones. From dawn to dark, every hour of the day will feature classic American music from composers like Charles Ives, John Philip Sousa, Duke Ellington, William Grant Still, John Williams, Virgil Thompson, and yes, more Gershwin. Planned favorites include Hoe- down from Rodeo, Stars and Stripes Forever, Fugue & Chorale on Yankee Doodle, and of course the perennial salute, God Bless America.
From historical archive recordings of luminaries such as John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King Jr., to stirring new musical recordings, The Sound of America will convey American ideas and ideals through words and music.
