Editor’s note: Several hundred Canyon County residents sign up for ESL
classes each session. The Boise State Canyon County Center needs volunteer
tutors to help serve them. Linda Weiss of Nampa began tutoring a few months
ago and is willing to visit with you about her experiences. She volunteers
four hours a week tutoring one student whose native language is Spanish and
another who speaks Korean. She said most of the students who take classes
need to learn English to get a job or move up to a better job, or to better
interact with their children’s school teachers. They also have a lot to
share about their own cultures and experiences, Weiss said. She can be
reached by phone at 463-7676, or e-mail at
swissam7@msn.com.
